Many art forms, like music, lend themselves well to collaboration. Sometimes the collaboration evolves into a long-term partnership. In this special edition of the Clan Artiste Podcast, Rachel James and Dave Preston of Dearling talk candidly about their partnership in life as a married couple, and how it informs their artistic collaboration.
About the Artists
Before they met, Dave and Rachel were established musicians in their own right. Guitarist and producer Dave Preston has performed with artists like Matt Morris, Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson. He’s also released several solo albums, including the critically acclaimed ambient record In These Storms. Rachel James, an accomplished songwriter and vocalist, recently fronted pop-rock act Rachel and the Kings, who won the national Ford Gimme the Gig Contest months before their debut album was released. Together, the pair form the creative core of rock-folk band Dearling, set to release their first full-length record this fall.
In this podcast, Dave and Rachel talk about their collaboration in life and music, and how they have been able to blend their styles into a unique new sound. They also talk about making a living as musicians, the changing landscape of the music industry and much more. It’s a fantastic conversation which I believe will benefit artists of all stripes.
Programming note: As the conversation progressed among us, I felt that there was so much important content that I decided to divide the podcast into two parts–watch for the second part soon!
